I embroidered our front screened door. Go ahead, read that sentence again- I know it's weird. I couldn't help myself, though! We have an old-timey front door, the kind where you put the screen in for Summer and replace it with glass in the Winter. The screen we have is pretty beat-up so I wasn't going to lose any sleep if I ruined it even more by cross-stitching the word "hello" on it. Here's my advice if you want to embroider a screen...make sure it pops out of the window or door so you can hold it, make the letters bigger than you think they should be, use a needle with a small eye, and sew neatly on the front and back. Luckily, the screen material is already a grid, so laying out a pattern shouldn't be an issue. This foray into screen-embroidering has inspired me to buy a *new* screen and embroider an even bigger message/pattern. I'm geeking out over here, my friends!

I love this idea! So welcoming!
So fun!
So spontaneous!
I'm pretty sure our front screen needs a welcoming message now!
I absolutely freakin' love this! You crafty genius!
Fingers crossed my husband will let me borrow the idea.
Also - how cute would this be for the holidays - you could even make "wreath" this way!
Love, love, love this.
I lu-hu-huuuuuv this idea! My front door is the same...but we only have the glass insert. I've always been sad that we can't leave the door open in nice weather...and now I'm doubly sad. Guess it's time to start looking for a screen insert...or to have one made.
So fun! I love this.
Very clever!
this is my favorite thing ever! i don't think i would have ever thought of it, but it looks so so cute.
Absolutely brilliant! Makes me want a screen door baaaaaad....or a screen porch, yeah!
best diy idea i've seen in a long time. pretty sure i'm going to do this to my screen door as well. thanks!
Love it!
This is brilliant! I have some screen mesh sitting around somewhere...
Brilliant idea! I know I have screen mesh lying around somewhere...
Oh my, think of the possibilities! ( I know you already have).
so great!
Very inspired and scouting for places around portland to do more embroidery graffiti similar to your "hello" after doing my first large scale embroidery. http://curiousdoodles.blogspot.com/2011/12/embroidery-installation-collaboration.html
I'd love to see a wider shot from further back. Will you post one?
Fantastic! I'm stealing this idea.
That's about the cutest thing I've ever seen and makes me oh-so nostalgic for the little things not afforded in condo living.
you are so. awesome.
That's awesome! I've been trying to find the perfect word to etch into the glass on our side entry kitchen door
Your creativity knows no bounds! I just love this idea! So much better than a welcome mat, can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Ha! This is awesome. What a GREAT idea!
I think I might have to do this.
Ha! What an awesome idea. This is totally great.
I'm pretty sure I'll have to try this out myself.
ahhh!!! I LOVE it!!! So so so funnn!! :) Living in a beach town...I wish I could be a "good vandal" and leave happy messages on bungalow screen doors! hmmm...
Love from the NJ Shore!

Love!!!! You are so smart! I am sure even the grumpiest person will feel happy when they arrive at your door!
This isn't weird, this is fabulous. Plus, it would probably stop people like me from running into the screen door.
Awesome!! Can't wait for warm weather to do mine. Thanks!!
Flippin' genius, you are! (Crystal ball moment- this is going to be HUGE on blogs all over the internets...mark my words!)

I love it! Besides being adorable and fun, it could totally functional depending on the type of screen door. I know I've walked through one because the dot that was on it to keep people from walking through it was too low for me to see!
This is why you're the awesomest. Seriously.
aah... I LOVE this idea! I've thought of embroidering big eyeball curtains for my front windows... This idea though is opening up my mind to so many possibilities-- my brain is instantly seeing grids everywhere to embroider/crossstitch on.
I wish England was warm enough in summer to have such a thing as a screen door - I would stitch it in a heartbeat! Brilliant.
Very Spiffy!! Or as my grammy would say: Very Sniffy!...That's a cross between Spiffy and Nifty! Either way, great idea!
genius!
This is a super neat idea! Wishing I had a screen door.
Ha! I love that!!
I am certain you have started a trend with this one!
So, so cool!
Adorable idea! I love it.
love love love it!
This is genius - I love it!
Happy day!
i just did this a few weeks ago at my little vintage boutique brick and mortar shop :) check it out: http://smashingrubbish.blogspot.com/2012/03/all-are-welcome-screen-door.html
Absolutely love this idea. I may have to add a screen door to my dreamhouse must-have list, just so I can embroider it!
hmm...this could be cute on a window screen too... maybe with waxed bookbinding thread...
LOVE your little projects :)
Weird, welcoming, brilliant, warm, clever, cheerful, wonderful...it's all a matter of perspective.
This is an amazing idea!
Love this idea! I'm gonna do it!
I love this! I've been wanting to do something like this with our ugly mesh pool fence. It would probably take me a year though...but this is inspiring!
Adorable and cool! And thanks for the helpful tips for anyone who wants to try it. Great post!
That's such a cute idea! I think I'll be trying it on more than just one window...
I'm right with you on loving the nuttiness of this! Do you call it 'fly screen' like we do?
http://whipup.net/2011/10/12/guest-blogger-series-it-ain’t-only-about-the-flies/
PS. Have noticed that real spiders do not inhabit corners of windows where embroidered spiders live - a veritable revelation...
That is spectacular! I would love to have something like that around my screened patio. The only hitch is that I don't exactly know how to embroider...could be a problem.... :)
You're amazing!
What a great idea!! I have some old fashioned window screens that might be cool to stitch on too, and they already have their own "frames."
Geek away, we all love it!
